History

Quest For Sorcery was one of the earliest add-ons

for

[

The

Major

BBS

|gcomm:TheMajorBBS]

.

It

was

written

sometime

in

the

first

half

of

1987

and

possibly

very

late

1986.

It

came

after

[

Fazuul

]

and

[

Quest

For

Magic

|QuestForMagic]

,

but

was

likely

before

[

Quest

of

the

Alchemists

|QuestOfTheAlchemists]

.

Scott

Brinker

was

not

satisfied

with

the

results,

so

he

quickly

began

work

on

[

Quest

For

Sorcery

II

|QuestForSorceryII]

.

We

know

that

the

game

was

built

on

the

same

source

code

platform

as

[

Fazuul

]

,

[

Quest

For

Magic

|QuestForMagic]

,

and

[

Quest

of

the

Alchemists

|QuestOfTheAlchemists]

.

We

don't,

unfortunately,

know

much

more

than

that.

When

[

Scott

Brinker

|gcomm:ScottBrinker]

was

asked

about

these

games

he

said

"As

I

recall

Quest

for

Sorcery

didn't

stay

around

long.

I

wasn't

very

happy

with

the

game,

which

was

sort

of

a

sequel

to

Quest

For

Magic,

but...

I

don't

know,

it

just

never

really

gelled.

Shortly

after

it

came

out,

I

wrote

Quest

for

Sorcery

II."

We

desperately

need

a

copy

of

this

game,

and

hopefully

some

sysop

from

1987-8

era

has

a

copy

in

a

box

of

floppies

somewhere.
