The Announcer

History

The Announcer was a very small and inexpensive add-on which created a menu option that read a text file on the BBS disk. As a result, changing the information displayed by the module was easily done while the system was on-line. The module, when selected from the main menu, would simply output the text in the file to the user. What was in the text was up to the Sysop.

The Announcer became unnecessary with the introduction of the MenuMan Edition of The Major BBS, which allowed for the creation of menu options to reference text files. In addition, other, more advanced add-ons like The Gateway by Parallax allowed for text files in menus.

Module Information

The announcer is a low cost module which permits you to easily announce new features and functions coming to your system. By simply changing the text file you can add a main menu function to announce such things as new games coming to your system, upcoming social events, special prizes or price changes, or any other important bulletin you like. It can even serve as a community calendar of events on your system.
