History
Androids was another revolutionary design by Galacticomm, one that advanced the gaming development further. It was a 100% ANSI graphic action game. The game performed better for users with faster modems. After this game was produced, several ISVs began producing games with ANSI graphics that ranged from simple static images to full ANSI screens using VT100 cursor keys to move around.
Always seeming to be modest in his code comments, Tim Stryker described this game, written in February 1988, as follows: "This is a little robot action game, to demonstrate a few of the possibilities inherent in The Major BBS." While the game may seem basic to game players today, the game was nothing short of revolutionary in 1988.
Game Information
Androids is an ANSI arcade game where users were represented on a map by a character, and they moved the character around picking up numbers as fast as possible, while competing with other players for those numbers (and ramming them). It was fast paced, and used quite a bit of resources of the BBS. It included two top score lists, one for overall points, and one for points per hour.
Gameplay
Users were placed on the map and moved their character using arrow keys, moving into numbers to collect points and avoiding hazards. It was realtime, the first add-on for the system to utilize the realtime 18hz BIOS function in the GSBL.
