History

Whodunit? was the first mystery adventure game for The Major BBS. It was written using the Scott Brinker and Richard Skurnick developed engine previously used for Kyrandia and Alchemy II.

For a time, Moonshae Telecomm gave a free copy of Whodunit? to customers spending over $500.00. After the Galacticomm acquisition, Whodunit? was no longer sold. However, the main developer and author, Jeffrey Kobal, released a sequel under his new TPD Psycho Software entitled Mystery.

This game's source code has remained elusive. We have contacted the author, but he has yet to find it. We hope that it is not lost forever.

For a brief time, this module was offered free with the purchase of other products in the Moonshae Telecomm catalog.

Game Information

Whodunit? is an interactive, multi-user, text adventure game complete with murder and mayhem, suspects and clues, and bad humor. Players look for incriminating evidence, interrogate game characters, and try to solve the murder mystery like private detectives.

A configurable multi-user murder mystery game that lets users play detective, piece together clues, explore the scene of the crime, and question witnesses.

Gameplay

Gameplay within Whodunit? is fairly typical of text "adventure" games (now more commonly called interactive fiction games) like Zork, Colossal Cave, etc; and MUD games, like Dungeon, Rogue, etc. Players issue simple verb-noun command pairs, such as "north", "get object", "mix object1 object2", etc. Players can interact with other players in the game, as well.
