We Restore Software for The Major BBS and Worldgroup by Galacticomm
In 2004, we founded The Major BBS Restoration Project. The goal then as it is now was to preserve as much of the Galacticomm history and technology as possible, and then restore it to make it available on modern platforms to hobbyists of all generations. We acquired the Galacticomm intellectual property in 2005 and have acquired or been donated the rights to dozens of independent software catalogs. Throughout the last two decades we have converted this software to the latest builds of the product and made it available for use. The current plan is to open source as much as can be, and provide free binary compilations for all of it. There's a lot to get to, and while we did transfer a portion of the Galacticomm IP to another member of the project in 2018, we still are involved in the core platform too!
The majority of products support the most recent Windows versions (Worldgroup version 3.2 and The Major BBS version 10). There is limited and dwindling support for prior DOS-based versions. How do we do this? We find the original software and upgrade the old Turbo C or Borland C code to more modern compilers and upconvert to the latest API.
