History

While the entertainment and support BBS customers for Galacticomm's The Major BBS were, by 1990, served by a wide variety of software products, the business customer was still under served. Moonshae Telecomm recognized this, and began work on a couple of business oriented modules, the main one being The Major Database.

Completed in early 1990, Moonshae, by then called Galactic Innovations released the product for a steep $495.00. Source code was available for an additional $300.00, and the off line utility sources were an extra $200.00, making a full source license a whopping $995.00!

After the Galacticomm purchase, Galacticomm continued to market The Major Database. Ed Bush, another former Moonshae programmer, performed the conversion to the v6.0 DLL standard.

Utility Information

The Major Database is a configurable multi-user database module for the BBS. It supports up to 64 (unsure if this was due to the 64 user limit in v5.x when this catalog description was written -Rick) simultaneous users searching, viewing, entering, modifying, and deleting records. Complete security and access-level control is provided including a Database Audit Trail. Powerful off line support programs provide easy configuration, database management, import/export of data, and more.

The system has the ability to have up to eight online databases of information available. In each database, there can be up to twelve different "views", each of which can allow you to search the database by different criteria, enter new records, or modify existing records (provided you have the required access).

The particulars of what database services are available are entirely a function of the Sysop's configuration of the databases on the system.
