Sea Battle

History

Sea Battle was actually Logicom's first in a line of games that were full-screen ANSI games, with cursor control, etc. It was released in January 1989, and proved to be very popular. It may have been the driver behind Logicom's shift in direction toward full-screen ANSI games.

Sea Battle was based upon the classic board game Battleship.

The game was sold by Logicom to Soft Arts in 1997.

Game Information

Sea Battle is a player vs. player naval war game which uses ANSI graphics and cursor control to simulate the battle grids. You can challenge other users on the system, or play against the computer. The object of the game is to sink your opponents ships before he sinks yours!

Features include:

  • Color ANSI graphics displays and full cursor control.
  • Player Vs. Player action, or Player Vs. computer.
  • Players may converse with each other throughout the game.
  • Monitor grids for shots fired, and incoming shots.
  • Constant updates keep you informed of your opponent's status.
  • Tracks where your last shot was fired.
  • Online help is available at any time.

Gameplay

The game screen was divided into two vertical panes. The left, the larger of the two, showed the game grid, your ships, and where you've fired (and whether it was a hit or not). The right showed game status information. Commands were entered on the bottom of the screen at a fixed prompt.

The game allowed both two-player and single player (vs computer) modes.
