Background and HistoryLogicom was one of the first third-party developers for The Major BBS. It was started in south Florida by Don Arnel. Logicom's influence was also very strong on The Major BBS itself. An early modification written by Arnel allowed Sysops to create a sub-menu from The Major BBS (yes, it used to just be one main menu!). Later, it was expanded to allow dynamic menuing, and later became Galacticomm's Menuman Edition, which eventually was folded into the main standard BBS. Other contributions included the line editor, which Arnel helped Tim Stryker write in 1988. Logicom's addons were varied; both functional and entertainment modules were offered. One thing was constant: for over a decade, Logicom produced some of the finest and most profitable add-ons for The Major BBS and Worldgroup. In November 1995, Don Arnel founded Cyberware, Inc., whose purpose was to develop and maintain the Logicom line of products for The Major BBS and Worldgroup. Logicom focused on reselling Cyberware products and handling sales and technical support. Tim Arnel became president of Logicom. As the Worldgroup market began collapsing in the late 1990's, Arnel sold the rights during a per-module sale in January-February 1997 to many Logicom/Cyberware modules to Soft Arts, Ltd. Some modules did not transfer to Soft Arts (for example, Biorhythm went to Adventurecomm); We're working on getting a full Logicom/Cyberware catalog list as well as a full history of their rights transfer. |
